Just for the record, social media is not supposed to consume a business’s entire marketing budget. Typically, a certain percentage (say 5-10%) of your overall budget should be allocated towards social media marketing. For those who have not jumped on the bandwagon, it’s important to realize a few points when learning about social networking and integrating this into your marketing campaign.
A recent guest blogger, Elizabeth Arritt, who leads strategy and implementation of social media for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, gave a few good ideas to get you started in the world of internet integration.
1) Be everywhere – ensure that your presence is everywhere your audience is.
2) Play by the rules – know the rules of each community before you jump in
3) Maximize “behind the scenes” integration – there are several ways to streamline your posts which allow you to make one post that goes out over several social platforms at once.
4) Cross-Promote- include links on your main website for all your social profiles and make sure to mention these co-profiles through each individual site. (for instance, tell your facebook users that you’re on twitter and vice versa). Also make sure your followers, core customers, and potential customers know how to find you!
These tips should help you get started and hopefully make life a little easier when trying to get your media campaign up and running. Because of how fast technology has progressed, we now have the power to reach virtually thousands and millions of people at once. Talk about power!
